    Rules and Regulations

    1. Mathemania is a contest which consists of different kinds of puzzles of different level;

    2. This is an annual event organized by Horizon Int’l Education Centre (HIEC) Math Department in both Yangon and Mandalay. The purpose of this contest is to boost enthusiasm towards Math and strengthen the critical thinking skills of students;

    3. Anyone from Secondary and High School level can participate in this contest;

    4. Secondary school level participants are the participants who are attending Grade 5 to Grade 8 during the 2007-2008 academic year. High school level participants are the participants who are attending Grade 9 to Grade 10 during the 2007-2008 academic year. For International Schools, High level participants are categorized as Grade 9 to Grade 12;

    5. Contestants must submit a special application form with the required information filled before the Application Deadline (14th of November 4:00 pm). The Application form is available in HIEC’s office and on HIEC’s website www.horizon.com.mm. The Application form can be duplicated;

    6. Applicants are required to pay 1000 Kyats and bring two recent photos;

    7. Two days after submitting the Application form, applicants will receive an Identity card (ID card) that will give them the right to participate in the contest;

    8. ID cards and NRC cards need to be shown before the test for appropriate age confirmation;

    9. Contestants should sit in their appropriate seats according to their ID card number;

    10. Since the contest will start exactly at the announced time, no late students will be allowed to sit for the competition. For that reason, participants are advised to come at least 30 minutes before the competition starts;

    11. The test consist of 20 puzzles and it requires some basic math skills like addition, subtraction, division and multiplication;

    12. Secondary and High School level students will solve different questions according to their level;

    13. Sample questions will be provided with brochures or can be obtained directly from HIEC’s office and will be also available on our website www.horizon.com.mm;

    14. The contest will be on 17th of November for the Secondary School level participants and on 18th of November for the High School level participants;

    15. There will be two sessions for both levels. The first session will start at 10:00 am and the second session will start at 1:00 pm;

    16. No books, calculators, computers, cell-phones or other electronic devices will be allowed during the contest. Participants are permitted to use only writing tools and erasers;

    17. No participant is allowed to go around, talk to other participants or share writing tools or erasers during the contest;

    18. For possible technical mistakes on the test paper participants have the right to ask for a new one. For that reason, students are advised to go through the paper before the contest starts. For possible changes, responsible teachers will be in charge;

    19. Contestants can ask questions only to responsible teachers after raising their hand. Participants are not allowed to shout or ask questions loudly;

    20. Participants will remain in their seats until all test papers have been collected, regardless of whether they have finished the test;

    21. Each correct answer will earn the score specified next to the puzzles;

    22. The time range allowed is 1 hour and 30 minutes for both Secondary and High School levels;

    23. Results of the contest will be announced 2 weeks after the test (1st of December);

    24. In case of draw: the number of highest scoring puzzles solved will be considered;

    25. There will be 3 Grand Prizes and the top 10 scorers will receive special prizes;

    26. Participants should solve at least 10 puzzles to be eligible for the grand prizes;

    27. Prizes can be collected from HIEC’s office or received during the Award Ceremony (8th of December);

    28. The answers of the contest will be posted on www.horizon.com.mm after announcing the winners (3rd of December);

    29. HIEC Math Department holds the right to disqualify any competitor who violates the above rules and conditions or for any ethical violations during the test;

    30. All participants are expected to have read and accepted the above rules and conditions.
