What is ‘O’ level?

  • An ‘O’ level is a GCE Level qualification
  • ‘A’ level courses immediately follow on from ‘O’ level courses
  • A pre-university requirement for most universities
  • Available in a broad range of subjects covering the whole curriculum
  • Grades range from A to E
  • Students who do not meet the minimum standard requirements will be awarded with U (unclassified)
  • Most candidates enter four to seven subjects at eh age of sixteen
  • ‘O’ Level exams are offered twice a year in January and May

Why ‘O’ level?

  1. Most universities require ‘O’ levels for their undergraduate studies
  2. ‘O’ Level is a requirement for ‘A’ level courses or the Foundation/ Diploma Program
  3. A standard recognized worldwide by employers and universities
  4. A stepping stone for further study at undergraduate level anywhere in the world including the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore

 Examinations

  1. O’ Levels have one tier of examination which is taken by candidates of all abilities.
  2. Exam registrations are done through British Council TEST CENTER in Yangon.
  3. Exam papers are sent to Myanmar through BRITISH EMBASSY
  4. Exams are conducted only in Yangon
  5. Students take 2 papers for subjects with 2 modules
  6. Total time for one subject exams is approximately 4 hours
  7. English language/literature is a one module exam
  8. Universities require students to take ‘O’ Level exams in one sitting
  9. Students can ask for their exam paper from EDEXCEL in case of objections
  10. Students should be familiar with the marking schemes issued by examiners of EDEXCEL
